This was a particularly involved project. We needed to place some very tall and heavy Tony Cragg sculptures along the newly paved Exhibition Road in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. A huge obstacle was to place the sculptures in such a way that they were safe for the public but yet that there would be minimal disruption. K&C had just spent £12m paving the highway to create a combined vehicle – pedestrian area. Artful Logistics proposed that concrete plinths could be cast in-situ and that this method would also take into account the complex gradients of the paving. When the exhibition came to an end the sculptures, which had been resin bolted to the plinths, were easily removed revealing the cast-in lifting eyes for the concrete blocks. These also required simple lifting prior to a final sweep around and no need to re-instate the highway!
